SALES & LARCULATION: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday approved Eli Lilly and Company’s (NYSE: LLY) Cialis (Tadalafil) tablets for the treatment of ED.
The FDA approves the generic version of Cialis to treat erectile dysfunction, but the brand-name drug is still under review for possible safety concerns.
“We’ve taken a huge amount of our clinical data to give patients more information on the safety of this product and the long-term safety of the brand-name drug,” said Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “This approval is good news for Eli Lilly.”
Eli Lilly’s Cialis tablets, which is Lilly’s version of Lilly’s erectile dysfunction drug, are available only by prescription.
Tadalafil is an oral medication that is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. Eli Lilly also offers Cialis (Tadalafil) for erectile dysfunction treatment, but it is not covered by the FDA. Cialis is available as a generic equivalent to tadalafil.

Eli Lilly has already received approval from the FDA for its treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Tadalafil is the first oral therapy approved by the FDA for the treatment of ED, and has been used off-label in studies of pulmonary hypertension.
